Description

Using the same new 16"/50 cannons of Scheme C:

But in triple turrets all forward reminiscent of the British Nelson class with the usual aircraft facilities aft with the addition of a fully enclosed hanger for the seaplanes to protect them from the effects of weather. Engine arrangement is the same as Scheme A so all of the boiler rooms are located forward of the turbine rooms which were located at aft. Another not ordinary and in a way weird thing about this design was the concentration of the main rangefinders on the superstructure close to each other. This makes one of the main rangefidner redundant as only one could face aft and in case of battle damage, it is very likely that both could be taken out leaving the ship with the turret enclosed range finders. This design was the largest among the preliminary studies leading to the final North Carolina class battleships and shows what a well armed and armoured design should look like though this meant the displacement was well over the proposed treaty limits!

The design had the following characteristics:

Dimensions: 228,6 wl x 32,31 x 9,75m
Displacement: 40.500tons (standard), 43.730 (maximum)
Armour: 159mm Deck, 432mm Belt
Engines: 185.000shp 4 shafts
Speed: 56km/h (30,5knots)
Armaments:
3x3 16"/50 (406mm) Cannons
6x3 5"/38 (127mm) DP-AA Guns
6x4 1,1"/75 (28mm) AA Guns
2-4x Seaplanes (I've choose Vought O5U)

Have to say Is quite a odd design but I guess the USN really loved the Nelson look when making this
