Description

Compared to Scheme A:
tzoli.deviantart.com/art/North…
Scheme B shows a more conservative approach regarding the arrangement of the main turrets with superfiring pairs of tripel turrets forward and aft but still using the triple 5" turrets as DP-AA guns. Both deck and belt armour increased and together with the addition of a 4th turret meant a considerable increase in displacement and thus the design became very "tight" for the proposed 35.600ton limit of the 2nd London Naval Treaty. Engine arrangement was similar to Scheme A grouping the boilers aft of the turbines. The primary and secondary superstructure design remand unchanged. Aircraft facilities were also the more accepted conservative arrangement on the aft sides or fantail.

The design had the following characteristics:
Dimensions: 216,41 wl x 32 x 9,95m
Displacement: 36.800tons (standard), 39.730 (maximum)
Armour: 133mm Deck, 337mm Belt
Engines: 180.000shp 4 shafts
Speed: 56km/h (30,5knots)
Armaments:
4x3 14"/50 (351mm) Cannons
6x3 5"/38 (127mm) DP-AA Guns
4x4 1,1"/75 (28mm)
2-4x Seaplanes (I've choose Vought O5U)

I have a really hard time believing these proposed specifications were even remotely achievable. A 4-turret design that's shorter and narrower than the finalized 3-turret North Carolina, yet also has thicker armor, nearly 50% more horsepower and higher speed on the same displacement? Even given that these are 14" guns rather than 16" and thus the turrets would individually weigh less, that's just not plausible.

Had this design been built I have no doubt they would've had to either thin the armor or settle for a much lower speed than 30.5 knots.
