Description

cpmcpm13 :iconcpmcpm13: asked me to make a modernised version of the Viribus Unitis class Battleship SMS Szent István the sole Hungarian battleship of her class. As you can see, here she is. I've decided to make a mix of Italian and German constructions equipment and weaponry.

The changes included in the modernisation as follows:
- Removed Underwater Torpedo tubes.
- Installation of the Pugliese underwater defence system and thickened deck armour to 86mm form 48mm.
- 1,5meters of bulges added to provide necessary stability.
- Replacing the engines with more modern and stronger types.
- Modifying the main turrets to achieve higher elevations of the barrels as well as stronger armour for the face and roof plates.
- German made 10,5cm SK C/33 AA guns provide the heavy AA fire.
- Italian made Breda 20mm Model 1935 and 37mm Model 1932 light AA guns for close range fire.
- Italian Catapult and Seaplane (IMAM Ro.43) for spotting on both sides.
- Completely rebuilt superstructure similar to the Andra Doria, Guilio Cesare and Littorio classes with funnel similar used in the Gneisenau.
- Rangefinder equipment of German origin

Did you guys notice a small amount of patriotism? :)

this looks good and maybe this sounds silly:

but wasn't the completed design for the "improved tegetthoff class" (ersatz monarch), the design which they scrapped last minute (because the war was over etc.).
wasn't this new design already the improved modernised variant of the tegetthoff? it had various improvements to make the vessels more seaworthy and stable, my take on things would be that that version would get the modernisations, not the standard tegetthoff class.

also not really a fan of the 2 catapults as they were getting rid of these rather then adding more of them, in favour of secondaries and more Anti air. having 1 catapult in the center would perhaps been a better idea. then again it's your take on things :D.
