Description

An exceptional cruiser design from Her Majesty's Royal Navy!

The Crown Colony design progress started in 1936, right after the Southampton class construction started. The series first study was K20 a 8500ton cruiser with 3 quad 6inch turrets an in the upcoming variants the armament calibre of 6inch was remained the same just their number, ship armour and speed changed. The final design which was eventually built as the Fiji subclass beared the designation K31.

In the K-25 series of studies decision was made to explore the possibilities to mount 5,25inch twin turrets on a 8000ton hull. 9 variants were explored: A through H, A had 7 turrets 4 forward and 3 aft with 2 turrets forward are on the same B deck level others had 4 turret forward and 3 aft all superimposed over each other, while on F as you can see, an 8th turret added in 1-2-1 1-2-1 fashion to save weight and improve stability. All turrets would be armoured similar to the Battleship turrets and not like the Dido ones.
These alternatives were reported on 25th of July, 1936.

Controller, Rear Admiral Sir Reginald Guy Hannam Henderson, much favoured the 5,25inch cruiser, but the Board rejected his views. Henderson was responsible for several innovative ships, including the 'Tribals', the Didos, the armoured carriers, and HMS Unicorn, as well as for the King George V class.

Data on the design:
Dimensions: 169,3m x 18,9m x 6,04m (same as the Crown Colony class)
Displacement: 8.000tons standard
Engines: Unknown (probably similar to the Crown Colony)
Maximum Speed: 59km/h (32knots)
Range: Unknown (probably similar to the Crown Colony)
Armour: 76mm Belt, 32mm Deck, Turrets had 76mm faces, 25mm sides and roofs
Armaments:
8x2 133mm Guns (5,25inch) (QF Mark I)
2x8, 2x4 40mm Pom-pom AA Guns (2-pdr Mark VIII)
4x4 12,7mm AA Guns (MG Mark III)
2x3 533mm Torpedo Tubes
2-3 Supermarine Walrus Floatplanes

On the sketch drawing only a pair of quad Pom-poms and a pair of quad 12,7mm MG's were drawn

Edit: Fixed the scale as the drawing itself was larger then the drawings I make.
